The Sunrise Optimist Club of Ventura is an affiliate of Optimist International, an association of more than 2,900 Optimist Clubs around the world. Our club is a member of the Pacific Southwest District (PSWD) that is part of Optimist International. Each Optimist Club is autonomous and run by its members to serve the particular needs of its community. Our Club's motto is "Friend of Youth."
The Club was founded in 1960 to serve the youth of Ventura, California. Members, from a cross-section of the business, social, and cultural communities of our area, come together to develop Optimism as a philosophy of life utilizing the tenets of the Optimist Creed. We are not a religious or political group; rather we come together as a service organization to benefit youth. Serving others benefits ourselves, our community, and humankind.
Club meetings are held on one morning and one evening each month in Ventura, where members plan club activities, hear programs of community interest, and develop camaraderie with people of all ages. Throughout the year, members volunteer in philanthropic events that provide a helping hand to youth. Visitors are always welcome to participate.
