Why we are Optimists

Why I’m grateful I was invited to join an Optimist Club...

I am proud to be one of the Ventura Sunrise Optimist Club members sponsored by
longtime member Marie Atmore. Marie has reached out to many Ventura educators like myself, offering us opportunities to support the young people in our community. Her capable leadership and constant encouragement have built a very strong network. I enjoy the social and learning activities that keep us all involved in our community.
Especially now, young people need support, appreciation and examples of optimism and hope as they imagine their own futures. That’s what the Ventura Sunrise Optimist Club is all about. Marie has shown us a way to continue to make a positive difference
as part of our local club and Optimist International. I am grateful for Marie’s positive example and generous friendship.

Admiring A Fellow Optimist — Doug McAvoy

Our personalities and careers are probably polar  opposites—he’s an engineer and I am a  counselor—but what I love about our Sunrise  Optimist Club is that we get to work together and  we appreciate each other’s strengths. Doug  McAvoy is a detail-oriented man; he knows our  policies and procedures and Robert’s Rules. He  knows our history, he keeps us on-track and out  of trouble; all with a gentle kindness that offends  no one. Doug has been our club treasurer for  decades and he took turns being club president  numerous times. He has been the inspiration and  main organizer for our tri-tip sandwich fundraiser  at Ventura High School. He’s done more club jobs  than anyone even knows. He is the glue that  holds us together. I continue to learn from him  and am ever grateful that he is a long-time  member of our club.

THANK YOU to Doug  McAvoy from Roanna Prell.
